Top 5 Divorce Tips

The first tip, copy all important documents in the house and store them somewhere safe. That means at a friends house or some other place, not your own home or office. They could be found by a spouse or some other person and provide incriminating evidence against you.
Second, videotape all your possessions in the house. If something comes up missing you will know what it was. Sometimes people end up leaving the house in a hurry, during a rough breakup. How can you possibly remember everything that was there? A videotape not only helps your own memory, but can act as evidence in court as well.
Hire a private investigator, before a lawyer. If you go to a lawyer and say, I think my spouse is cheating, they are going to want proof. A private investigator can provide the proof and evidence that the lawyer needs to help you make your case. This can save lots of money when you go to your lawyer. Sometimes people spend lots of money on the lawyer, only to find out they need a private investigator, but have no money left.
Putting some cash away is also a great idea. I worked with a lady recently, her husband had already left. He had total control of the money. She needed an investigator and a lawyer. She could not get either one. Be aware that breakups can happen suddenly. If you have cash stored away, then you have a fighting chance.
Draw cash out of bank accounts or other resources, sell things or whatever it takes to have some cash on hand. It will come in handy during the course of a divorce.
Get as much support and advice as you can. There are groups out there, for example many churches have divorce care groups. Also talk to friends to see if they know anyone who has been through a divorce and ask for advice.
